ABOUT PERLA DEL OTÚN

Las Aguilas is a part of Qima’s Micro Lots and Special Reserve Series, which comprises unique coffees with a complex profile sourced from a single farmer or cooperative. It was grown on an altitude of around 1,650-1,900 MASL in La Argentina, a town within the Huila department, situated in southwestern Colombia.

This lot comprising Chiroso has undergone washed processing to accentuate flavours of vanilla, strawberry, lemon and caramel in the resultant cup.

La Argentina is a municipality located within the Huila department of Colombia. Situated in the southwestern part of the country, La Argentina is known for its scenic beauty and its role in the region’s agricultural sector, particularly in coffee production.

The municipality is characterised by its lush, rolling hills and fertile soil, making it an ideal location for agriculture, especially the cultivation of high quality coffee, which is a significant industry and source of income for the residents.

*Haven’t heard about Chiroso?

While more research is needed, Chiroso is a relatively new Colombian variety whose first documented mention dates to 1990s in the Urrao of Antioquia department, northwestern Colombia. The farmer, Carmen Montoya, first noticed these unusual trees and decided upon the name, after which the propagation of Chiroso quickly spread in the region and beyond, gaining reputation for its unique flavours and complex aromas.
