A story of colonialism, resistance, and power.
Surprise surprise.
Coffee came to Mexico from the Caribbean & Central America,
Established by German immigrants,
Fueled by the work of President Porfirio Díaz.
Then it became the drink of the revolution,
Oh cafe de olla.
When coffee incomes plummeted,
It eventually came through stronger.
And Mexico remains a key coffee producer today.

From our exporter Crop 2 Cup Coffee:
Margarita Cabrera Poblano, 51, started working in coffee at 20 with her partner. Coffee has supported her family for over 30 years. The name "Ocotzalan" comes from the area's predominant pine forests, specifically the ocote or ayacahuite tree. The word is of Nahuatl origin, meaning "among ocotes”. Through the years, she has refined her farming practices, focusing on quality and specialty coffee production with techniques like pruning, planting shade trees, and fertilizing.
Margarita is committed to passing the trade down to her children and grandchildren, believing in its potential to provide jobs and improve quality of life. And she aims to promote specialty coffee production in her area, encouraging future generations to continue the tradition, create jobs, and reduce migration.
