Ten Years. Still Brewing Against the Machine.
Ten years ago I started this with a Kickstarter, a borrowed 400 square foot room, and a level of naivety that in hindsight was probably the only reason I tried. No investors, or a real business plan. Just a mission written in three lines and a first employee, Tarig, who showed up eight minutes early on day one, having navigated a bus system in a city he'd only lived in for two months.
That's how it started. A decade of good decisions and genuinely terrible ones. A roaster upgrade that barely fit through the door. A shop I poured everything into and eventually had to walk away from, because it stopped being honest and I couldn't pretend otherwise anymore. Fires that burned things down that probably deserved to survive.
But also: Yemen coffee that started as an auction joke, a building I drove past for years before I somehow signed the lease, and a team that stuck around long enough to watch it all become something real.
I don't know how to summarize ten years in a paragraph on a t-shirt tag. So I won't try. I'll just say: we started with fire, we're still burning, and we invite you to wear the evidence.
